Cookie Policy

"Cookies" here also covers local storage, which is what Chingelish mostly uses. These are small pieces of data saved by your browser on your device.

• Sign-in session — keeps you signed in between visits and secures requests to our servers.
• Cookie choice — remembers your preferences, date and notice version. Each decision is submitted to the server-side consent log: a random consent number, choices, notice version, time, page, browser type and account when signed in. No IP address is stored in this consent record; separate security rate limits can process IP addresses. Monthly cleanup is scheduled to remove consent records older than 3 years. A network failure can prevent a server record even while the local choice applies.
• Temporary sign-in steps — while you sign in with Google, we briefly remember which learner group and page to return to. Cleared when sign-in finishes or the tab closes.
• Parent Zone check — remembers, for this browser tab only, that the parent password was entered.
• Welcome screen — remembers, for this browser tab only, that the opening animation was already shown.
• Saved writing — when your child presses “Save my writing”, their work is kept on this device to provide the save they requested. It is not sent to us or anyone else and does not depend on optional cookie choices. Rejecting optional cookies does not erase it; clearing this website's data in your browser does.

• Parent/guardian check — remembers that the grown-up check was completed on this device.
• Daily reminder — remembers the last day a lesson reminder was shown, so it appears once a day.
• Microphone tips and feedback prompts — remembers that the microphone guide or a feedback question was already shown.
• Install prompt — remembers that you closed or used the "add to home screen" prompt.

These stay on your device and are not sent to us or anyone else. They are only saved when the "Functional" switch in cookie settings is on. If you switch it off or reject non-essential cookies, they are erased from this device straight away and the app simply forgets them — for example, the grown-up check and reminders may appear again. Writing explicitly saved with “Save my writing” is not a convenience preference and is kept separately.

Only if you switch on analytics do we load Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are popular. Before that, the Google script is not loaded and nothing is sent to Google. Page addresses that contain private tokens (such as password reset or device approval links) are reduced to a safe label, and Google signals and ad personalisation are switched off. We never send names, email addresses, passwords or payment details.

With analytics on, we also keep a random visitor number on your device so we can count, on our own servers, how many visitors view and use a promotion code. It is not linked to your name or email and is not shared with Google.

Chingelish does not use Google Ads or any other advertising or remarketing tracking on any page — not on children's pages and not on parent pages. We do not sell data and we do not use social-media tracking.

The cookie notice is addressed to grown-ups. Optional analytics is off until an adult chooses it, "Accept all" and "Reject non-essential" are shown with equal weight, and no advertising tracking runs anywhere, whatever is chosen. Please make cookie choices for your child rather than letting them decide.

Our typefaces are served from our own website, so loading a page does not contact Google Fonts. The app also talks to Lovable Cloud (hosting, database, sign-in) and speech technology services used for optional read-aloud and speaking practice. These are needed to run the service and do not place advertising cookies.

You can change your mind at any time using the cookie settings link, also available in the footer of every page. Switching analytics off stops new requests to Google straight away, including in other open tabs. You can additionally clear cookies and site data in your browser settings — this will sign you out.

Essential sign-in storage lasts according to session expiry or until removed. Device choices and convenience settings remain until replaced, removed or cleared; browser/tab-only settings end with the tab. Google Analytics storage can include _ga identifiers with vendor-configured expiry; we have not verified a uniform expiry or provider retention setting. Refusal prevents optional analytics loading.
